Location of Lystra, which has not been known up to
1885, was miraculously discovered by Sitlitton Sterret who found an
inscription mentioning the name ancient city. This inscription also
mentioned that Lystra was a Roman colony. After Iconium, Paul and
Barnabas came to Lystra and they met a cripple who was healed by Paul.
After this miracle, the people of Lystra thought Paul and Barnabas were
Jupiter and Mercury. They tried to sacrifice animals for them. When the
saint objected and said that they were only human beings, the crowd got
angry and even wild. Paul and Barnabas were stoned to such an extent that
they even thought that Paul was dead. His body was carried to the outside
of city walls.
